A memorial service for Janabai D. Thittakudi, 73, of Palatine, was held March 8 at the Sri Venkateswara Swami Temple, Aurora.

Born Aug. 13, 1929, she died Feb. 4 at her son-in-law's family home in Rayachoty, Andhra Pradesh, India.

Mrs. Thittakudi, a resident of Palatine for 24 years, immigrated to the United States in 1975. She was active in the Chicago area Indian-American community, and is fondly remembered by many of its members.

She composed a number of devotional songs and instructed many of the youth of the community in music, religion and culture.

She is survived by her daughter, Shyamala K. Revuluri, and her son-in-law, Krishnaiah Revuluri, of Palatine; grandchildren Sendhil and Sindhumathi; and her three younger brothers.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Dwarakanathan Thittakudi. They had been married for nearly 50 years.

Cremation was performed in Salem, Tamil Nadu, India, on Feb. 5.
